Law enforcers suspected that “family feud or business rivalry” might have led to the murder of a mother and her son in Dhaka’s Kakrail area.

Police recovered the bodies of Shamsun Nahar Karim, 46, wife of businessman Abdul Karim and their son Sajjadul Karim Shaon, 17, an A-level student from their own six-storey building on Kakrail VIP Road yesterday evening.

Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said the investigators primarily suspected that the duo might have been murdered over family feud or business rivalry.

Meanwhile, Ashraf Ali, brother of Shamsun Nahar, told The Daily Star that his sister wanted to file a general diary seeking her personal security three days before they were murdered, but she could not do so due to family issues.

“My sister told me over phone that her husband is married to three to four women and had other extramarital affairs too,” Ashraf claimed.

However, Shamsun’s husband Abdul Karim could not be reached for his comments.

Shamsun’s two other sons are currently in Canada and UK. After their arrival in Bangladesh, her body will be buried in Munshigonj, according to the family sources.
