Fakhrul fears govt action on BNP chief

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday at a pragramme at Jatiya press club apprehended government action against Chairperson Khaleda Zia and warned of “consequences”, saying the party would not sit idle.

On Senior Vice Chairman and Khaleda's elder son Tarique Rahman being convicted for the first time in a graft case on Thursday, he said the government might eventually target all involved with BNP. “It is a matter of our existence. We will not be spared,” he said, claiming that the verdict was politically motivated, “the last chapter” of a government conspiracy and an attempt to prevent Tarique's access to politics and the next general election.
