Extortion at Gabtoli cattle market

A group of local youths allegedly extorts money from cattle traders in name of “charge for perking” near Gabtoli in Dhaka on September 12, 2016. A group of local youths is allegedly extorting money from cattle traders in name of “charge for parking” near Gabtoli in Dhaka.

The group took Tk 100 from each without any receipt, alleged the traders.

Selim-ul Alam Mukti from Mirpur-11 said that two-three youths intercepted his way from the market and collected money from him.

“When asked about the receipt, they told us that it’s their tradition,” he told The Daily Star.

The youths in groups aged between 30-35 years are involved in the extortion, observes our reporter at the spot.
