Ex-MP among 75 sued over Ashulia unrest

Seventy five people, including former BNP lawmaker from Savar also Dhaka district BNP President Dr Dewan Mohammad Salauddin Babu, were sued on Thursday night for their alleged involvement in the instigation of the workers for creating the recent RMG unrest.

Eleven people, including seven workers' leaders, were shown arrested in the case filed by Sub-inspector Mohidul Islam against 15 named and 60 unnamed people, said Mohsinul Kadir, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station.

The leaders are Garments Shromik Federation's Ashulia branch President Shamim Ahomed, President of Garments Shromik Front Shoumitro Kumar Das, President of Shadin Bangla Garments Kormochari Federation Al Kamran, Textile and Workers Federation General Secretary Shakil Ahamed, its convener Mizanur Rahman, Bangladesh Garments and Shilpo Shromik Federation President Rafiqul Islam Shujon, and Bangladesh Industrial Shromik Federation Secretary Ibrahim.

Other arrestees are Savar upazila Vice-Chairmen and Savar BNP leader Mini Akter Urmi, her brother Isha Mia, BNP leader Dulal Toffazzal Hossen, the OC said.

With the case, a total of six cases were filed over Ashulia labour unrest, said the OC, adding, the other five cases were filed by the authorities of five closed factories accusing over 1,500 workers from Monday to Thursday night.
