Along with him, two full members of the outfit – Abdullah Hel Kafi and his wife Ayesha Akhter – were handed the same sentence by a Dhaka court today.

Jude KM Imrul Kayes of the Special Judge Court 6 handed down the sentence in presence of Saidur. The two others convicted in the case are still on the run.

Additionally, the trio was fined Tk 1 lakh each and an additional year of jail term for default.

On May 25, 2010, police arrested Saidur and two others from a residence adjacent to Nur Mosque in the city’s East Dania area. During the raids, the cops recovered a huge cache of bomb-making materials, firearms and ammunition and jihadi books.

Later, a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act was filed against Saidur and two others with Kadamtoli Police Station.

According to the prosecution, it was alleged that Saidur and others planned to create anarchy among the people by committing subversive activities across the country.

After an investigation into the case, police pressed charges against Saidur Rahman and two others on October 23 in the same year.
