Errant chain stores, restaurant fined in capital

A mobile court fined two chain stores, Agora and Meena Bazar, and fast food shop Coopers yesterday for keeping date-expired and stale food items in their respective shops at the capital's Shantinagar.

The mobile court of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) under the food ministry sentenced Agora's Shantinagar branch manager Monirul Islam to two years' imprisonment for keeping stale fish, meat and date-expired food in the store, said a food ministry press release.

The court led by Executive Magistrate Mashiur Rahman also fined him Tk 2 lakh. In default, he will have to be in prison for three more months.

The court also fined in-charge of Meena Bazar and manager of Coopers in the area TK 3 lakh each on the same charge. In default, they will have to face three months' imprisonment.
