Elephant kills one in Bandarban

A man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Kadhukhola Natun Para area of Sadar upazila in Bandarban yesterday morning.

A herd of wild elephants entered the village from a nearby forest and killed Md Siraj Uddin, 50, said Md. Abbas, a ward member.

Every year, in this season wild elephants especially attack Bhagyokul, Goyalmara, Kadukhola, Alinagar and Tonkaboti villages in search of food.

Most of the villagers are spending sleepless nights with spears, torches and sticks.

Kazi Kamal Hossain, divisional forest officer, said the five villages have been formed illegally destroying the nearby forest which is the habitat of wild elephants. The government should relocate these villagers.
