Elderly man beaten to death over land in Joypurhat

An elderly man was beaten to death allegedly by his neighbour following a dispute over demarcation of land in Itail village of Kalai upazila in Joypurhat yesterday afternoon.

The victim, Amzad Hossain, 64, succumbed to his injuries on the way to Kalai Upazila Health Complex.

Police arrested one Lal Bibi and her son Tariqul Islam after Amzad's family filed a case against them.

Kalai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sirajul Islam said the elderly man had an altercation with Tariqul when he was allegedly found adding some parts of Amzad's land.

As Amzad protested, Tariqul called his mother, started beating him and hit him in the head with a bamboo stick.

Police sent the body to Joypurhat Modern Hospital for autopsy.
