Eid waste to be removed in 48hrs, DNCC says

Mayor of North City Corporation Annisul Huq has expressed his hope that the corporation will remove waste from the capital within 48 hours from the noon of Eid-ul-Azha.

“Keeping the issues of cleanliness and waste control management in mind, a total number of 648 sights have been designated for slaughtering animals,” the mayor said when he was addressing a briefing at his Gulshan office in the afternoon.

People in 196, out of the total sights, will get facilities of imams, butchers and water supplies, said DNCC mayor.

Around 3.65 lakh leaflets and over two lakh polythene bags will be distributed among the city dwellers ahead of the Eid, he added.

The leaflets will inform people about the slaughtering sites designated for them, said the mayor.

Also 1,005 additional cleaners will be deployed along with the regular 2,225 cleaners, he added.

“To remove the estimated 3,000 metric ton solid waste, 130 modern waste carrying trucks will be engaged among other mechanical equipments” Annisul Huq told the journalists.

Eight control rooms will be opened -- two in Mirpur and Gulshan -- for waste management. People can contact Mirpur and Gulshan control rooms dialing numbers- 9004734 and 9861393.

Waste Management Department will also open a temporary control room and the contact numbers are 9856709 and 9858006.
