Security beefed up at Shahjalal airport, says Menon
Air Vice-Marshal Ehsanul Gani Chowdhury has been made the chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (Caab).
He will take the charge of the civil aviation regulatory body from Air-Vice Marshal M Sanaul Huq, according to a notification issued by Ministry of Public Administration today.
The move came up after UK imposed a ban on air cargo directly from Dhaka on March 8 after Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport failed to meet some international security requirements.
Meanwhile, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon today said that initiatives have been taken to beef up security at the airport.
International standard scanners and close circuit cameras were installed at the airport as a part of the measure, the minister told reporters at the Secretariat.
Security messages were announced through loud speakers on a regular basis, he said.
Security experts from the UK are providing training to the officials at the airport, the minister added.
