Efforts on to bring back corrupt people

Says ACC chairman

Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Iqbal Mahmood yesterday said they are checking out the way to bring the most corrupt people back home from abroad.

They will be brought to book once they return home, he said, adding that the ACC is preparing a list of such persons.

He was replying to journalists' queries at a human chain formed by the commission in front of the capital's Jatiya Press Club to observe Corruption Prevention Week 2017.

ACC officials, lawyers, members of Girl Guides, Boy Scouts and people from all strata of life joined the human chain.

In the afternoon, ACC gave media awards to six journalists for their investigative reports.

The awardees are Maasranga Television Senior Reporter Obaidul Kabir, Ekattor TV Staff Reporter Jemson Mahbub, Ekushey TV Special Correspondent SM Sekandar, Samakal Staff Reporter Abu Saleh Rony, Prothom Alo Senior Reporter Fakhrul Islam and Maasranga Television Special Correspondent Badruddoza Babu.

At the award giving ceremony, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor said corruption can be eliminated through coordinated efforts of businessmen, civil society and the media.

He suggested inclusion of special topics on corruption in textbooks to encourage the new generation to stand against it.
