EC's decision on smart NIDs without iris, fingerprints tomorrow

The Election Commission (EC) tomorrow at its meeting will take the final decision about distributing smart national identity (NID) cards without taking any iris and fingerprints to expedite the distribution process.

The EC will have to complete the distribution of 90 million smart cards across the country within the project deadline of December 31 but the distribution process turned slow for lack of adequate machines to take the iris and finger prints of huge voters simultaneously, said EC Secretary Muhammad Abdullah yesterday.
