EC wants to keep AL in power by any means

Says Fakhrul, criticises CEC for introducing digital voting machine

BNP yesterday criticised outgoing Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad for introducing digital voting machine (DVM) saying the commission is planning to keep ruling Awami League in power forever through conspiracy in the name of DVM.

Addressing a programme at the capital's Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said DVM in the national election will give voting fraudulence a new dimension.

Zia Parishad organised the programme.

“Even e-voting in the US election has been troubled.      The CEC is now saying he wants digital voting...the present election commission wants to keep Awami League in power forever by any means,” Fakhrul said.

“The present EC also successfully brought results of the local body elections in favour of the government-backed candidates,” he added.  “We hope the president will form a neutral and competent search committee to form the next election commission through which an acceptable EC will be formed.”
