BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed has blamed the Election Commission for its failure to arrange the Comilla City Corporation election in a free, fair and credible manner.

“Awami League cadres ousted BNP agents from polling centres and stuffed ballot boxes after blasting crude bombs in many areas. But the Election Commission has failed to resist the irregularities,” Rizvi said.

He came up with the allegation at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office soon after the voting ended this afternoon.

When asked whether his party will accept the result of the election, Rizvi, without giving any answer, said he was just informing media what and how many irregularities took place during the election.

Earlier in the day, he alleged that the Election Commission is entertaining the government’s will in the election.

“The election commission is not carrying out its constitutional duty,” he said. “Rather it is fulfilling the government’s will.”

“Even so, BNP will be in the race until the last to unmask the government’s undemocratic activities,” Rizvi told journalists while addressing a briefing at the party’s headquarters.

The BNP leader also alleged that the police was seeking vote for Awami League nominated candidate and was barring the BNP nominated candidate’s agents in the polling centres.

“Those who are entering, they are being harassed. Though there is a long queue outside the polling station, voters were barred from casting their votes,” he said.
