Teachers, students and employees of Dhaka University formed a human chain today urging an united effort to fight militancy and terrorism in the country.

They held the one-hour protest programme on the DU campus from around 11:00am in the wake of recent militant attacks across the country, reports our DU correspondent.

While attending the programme, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique said the Gulshan café attack is not acceptable and those who are involved will be brought to the justice.

If DU authorities find anyone’s involvement with the militancy, he or she will be suspended immediately, the VC warned.

DU Pro-VC (education) Prof Nasrin Ahmed said, “The attackers are our children. We will have to be more alert if we see any abnormality in their behaviour.”

The leaders of Dhaka University Teacher's Association, teachers, staff and students formed the human chain under the banner – Dear Bangladesh, stand against militancy and terrorism (Priyo Bangladesh, Jongibad O Sontrash Er Biruddhe Ruche Darao).

Academic and administrative activities of the university remained halted for an hour following the demonstration.
