DU VC attacked, registrar suspended over yearbook

Dhaka University’s vice chancellor was attacked and its registrar suspended today over its annual publication that mentioned Ziaur Rahman as the first president of Bangladesh.

The souvenir book, published today on the 95th founding day of Dhaka University, has already been confiscated after it faced violent protest from ruling party’s student front.

Aggrieved activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League vandalised VC AAMS Arefin Siddique’s car at campus around 3:15pm, our Dhaka University correspondent reports.

They confined acting Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman inside his office for some time and set fire to a copy of the souvenir book in protest and demonstration.

VC Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique signed the letter of suspension, for acting Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman, in the latest report filed this afternoon.
