DU admission competition drops by 17pc

With the deadline to apply online for admission to Dhaka University for the 2015-16 honours session passing yesterday, it is estimated that 38 students will be competing for each seat, a drop by eight from that of last year.

A total of 2,54,404 students have registered for the 6,685 seats, which have been increased by 103. Last year, 46,734 more students had contested.

Moreover, coming into effect this year is a new rule stipulating that a student can take the admission test only once.

The A (Ka) unit (science faculty) exam will be held on October 30 when 72,161 students are scheduled to vie for 1,660 seats (43 contestants per seat).

On October 9, 31,421 students will battle for 2,280 seats (14 students per seat) in the B (Kha) unit (arts faculty) exam.

In the C (Ga) unit (business studies faculty) exam, to be held on October 16, 43,857 students will vie for 1,170 seats (37 per seat).

Some 66 students will be competing for each of the 1,440 seats when 94,798 students sit for the D (Gha) unit exam on November 6. And for the (Cha) unit (fine arts faculty) exam, 12,167 students will compete for the 135 seats (90 per seat) on October 10 (general knowledge exam) and October 17 (drawing exam). The seat plan and other details will be available at www.univdhaka.edu and http://admission.eis.du.ac.bd.
