Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today vowed to rid the menace of narcotics from Dhaka city.

The promise was made during an awareness campaign of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at Farmgate. He sought assistance from all and asked to raise the awareness in this issue.

“Drug peddlers have no place in Dhaka city. At any cost, we will rid the menace of narcotics from Dhaka city,” he said in a stern tone.

“We have made a list of drug traders based on the information from intelligence agencies, they will pay for their misdeeds,” he said. “They will all be brought to book.”

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia distributed leaflets among pedestrians and commuters passing through the area. He said: “Anti-narcotics crackdown is underway. We will bring down all the drug dens of this city”.

Their comments come at a time when at least 49 people have been killed in so-called gunfights throughout Bangladesh in the last 10 days in an ongoing “war against drugs”.
