Kakrail double murder prime accused Al Amin alias Jhony has primarily confessed that he “killed his sister’s co-wife and step son”, Rab said.

Jhony, who was arrested today over the murder of Shamsun Nahar, a wife of Abdul Karim, and her son on Wednesday, had planned to kill Nahar after his sister Sharmin Akter Mukta, the third wife of Karim, attempted to commit suicide following family feud, according to Rab.

Tipped off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Jhony, 32, in Gopalganj this morning.

Since the marriage of Karim and Mukta, a feud was brewing among Karim, Mukta and Nahar over the properties owned by the deceased, Mufti Mahmud Khan, Rab’s legal and media wing director, said at a press briefing this afternoon.

At one point, three-four months back, Karim expressed his wish to get divorced with Mukta that led to Mukta’s attempted suicide three-four days ago.

Under such circumstance, Jhony started to blame Nahar for her sister’s distress and planned to murder her, the Rab official said.

On Tuesday, October 31, the day before committing the crime, Jhony bought a sharp weapon of TK 1100 from Dhaka New Market and knocked the door of Nahar’s residence the next day.

The housemaid opened the door and went back to the kitchen. Then Jhony locked the kitchen door keeping the maid inside.

After that, when he proceeded to kill Nahar with the sharp weapon, Nahar’s son Shaown tried to stop him. Then, he stabbed Shaown and went into Nahar’s room and started stabbing her indiscriminately.

When Shaown went to save his mother again, Jhony stabbed Shaown again.

Severely injured, Shaown tried to flee and collapsed at the staircase from where his body was recovered by the police.

After murdering the duo, Jhony took shelter at a relative’s house in Dhaka and later went to another relative’s house at Moksedpur of Gopalganj from where he was arrested today.

On Wednesday, police recovered the bodies of Nahar, 46, and her son Sajjadul Karim Shaown, 17.

Ashraf, brother of Nahar, filed a case with Ramna Police Station against Karim, Mukta, Jhony and several other unidentified people in connection with the double murder.

Meanwhile, after a namaj-e-janaza at Ramna circuit house premises, two sons of Nahar and classmates of her son Shaown demanded punishment to the criminals.

The bodies of the victims were buried today in Munshiganj Sadar upazila.
