Dhaka college girl beaten for 'refusing love proposal'

A group of youth allegedly assaulted a college girl for refusing love proposal in Demra area of Dhaka this afternoon.

Police detained Rakib, 25, and Babu, 24, in this connection, Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Sirajul Islam of Demra Police Station told The Daily Star.

Four youths intercepted her [the victim] in Kanapara area when she was returning home from her private tutor’s residence around 1:30pm, victim’s brother said.

Following an altercation, the youths kicked and punched her, the brother said, adding that they also hit her head with a brick.

Later, the victim received medical attention at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The victim, who is a second year student of a local college, lodged a case with the Demra Police Station in this connection against the four youths.

The accused are: Max Babu, 25, Imran Hossain, 24, Babu, 25, and Rakib, 25, the OC informed.

The incident may be an outcome of love related issue, the OC added.

Meanwhile, a Habiganj court today sent a teenage boy arrested on charge of physically assaulting a schoolgirl to a juvenile centre in Tongi. The boy was arrested yesterday after a video footage, which shows a high school girl is being repeatedly slapped by Ruhul, went viral on social media.
