Shafat, 4 others indicted in Banani double rape case

Five accused including Ahmed Shafat and his aide Nayeem Ashraf were indicted today on charge of raping two university students at a Banani hotel in Dhaka.  

The court fixed July 24 to start the trial of the case.

Judge Shafiul Azam of Second Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression framed charges against Shafat, Nayeem, Shadman Sakif, Shafat's driver Billal and bodyguard Abul Kalam Azad in their presence at the courtroom.

All the five accused, now in jail, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after the charges were read out to them.

On May 6, a university student filed the case with Banani Police Station accusing Shafat, Sakif and three others bringing allegation of rape against them.

According to the case statement, two young men including Shafat raped the plaintiff and another university girl on March 28 at a birthday party at The Raintree Dhaka at Banani while three others assisted them.
