Depict working class in literature

Discussion urges writers

Writers should depict the lifestyle of the working class to help build a moral and equal society in the spirit of nationalism and socialism, a discussion was told yesterday.

Bangladesh Progressive Writers Association organised the discussion marking its second national council at RC Majumder Auditorium of Dhaka University.

The speakers said writers should play a momentous role in creating a progressive generation who would fight against communalism and anti-liberation forces.

“A cultural revolution has been an important catalyst of change in the political movement ever since the Bengalis attained independence,” said Haidar Akbar Khan Rono, presidium member of the Communist Party of Bangladesh.

He said progressive writers played a significant role across the world to retain faith in humanity.

Kamal Lohani, former president of Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, said progressive writers incited the Bangalee people against all evil forces and inspired the nation to make progress fighting communalism and anti-liberation forces.

The association honoured eight personalities including Indian writer Sunit Kanti Paladhi, Turkish writer Ismail Abakus and Japanese writer Naomi Watanabe who were present at the discussion.
