Dengue patient dies in Dhaka

An 11-year-old girl, who was diagnosed with dengue fever, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) today.

Tarin, a student of class-V at Machua Khali Government Primary School in Goshaighat upazila of Shariatpur, breathed her last at 2:30 pm at the intensive care unit (ICU) of DMCH, hospital sources said.

Initially, she received treatment after being diagnosed with dengue fever in Goshaighat Upazila Health Complex, Tarin’s uncle Shahida Akhter told The Daily Star.

She was shifted to DMCH on September 12 after her condition deteriorated.

The unofficial death toll from the disease is now 149. However, the official figure is 60.

Directorate General of Health Services data shows 81,186 patients -- 44,986 in Dhaka and 36,200 outside Dhaka -- were hospitalised across the country this year. Some 2,546 patients are now undergoing treatment.
