Nurses protest ‘assault on fellow’ at Suhrawardy Hospital

Hundreds of nurses at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka have protested an “assault” on one of their fellow nurses by a relative of a dengue patient.

The protesters staged demonstration inside administrative building of the hospital since 10:30am to 12:00pm today.

However, services at the hospital were not hampered due to the protest.

Contacted, Prof Uttam Kumar Barua, director of the hospital, confirmed the incident and they are looking into it.

Samia Khatun, sister of a dengue patient Sharmin who is undergoing treatment at the hospital since August 5, alleged that she was beaten by a nurse named Mazeda Khanam, 35, when she tried to stop her sister and the nurse from fighting over trivial matter.

On the other hand, Mazeda Khanam told The Daily star that Samia Khatun assaulted her while she was on duty.

Jan-e-alam Munsi, officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, told The Daily Star that Samia was handed over to them by the hospital authority.

No case was filed in this connection till last reported.
