7 held with counterfeit notes

Detectives detained seven members of a gang of currency counterfeiters and seized Bangladeshi and Indian fake currencies from different areas of Dhaka yesterday.

They arrestee are, Md Rafiqul Islam alias Khasru, Md Liakat Hossain alias Zakir, Md Rafijul Islam, Md Shohag, Md Alauddin, Md Shahidul Islam and Md Mozammel Haque.

The seven were held from Mohammadpur and Farmgate, Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten of the Detective Branch of DMP said while addressing a press conference at the DMP media centre.

They also recovered Tk 1.15 lakh and 37,60,000 Indian rupees from their possession

Cops also seized five laptops, a laminating machine, security thread and paper which were used for printing fake notes.

In primary interrogation, they admitted their involvement in the crime.

The forgers become active ahead of Eid every year as a lot of money changes hands during the period for shopping. The Eid-ul-Azha is just over two weeks away.
