CU launches probe into VC office vandalism

The Chittagong University authorities yesterday formed a committee to investigate the incident of vandalism at the vice chancellor's office on Tuesday.

The three-member probe committee is headed by Prof SM Salamat Ullah Bhuiya of the marketing department, said Prof Kamrul Huda, acting registrar of CU.

The authorities also filed a case against 20 unidentified people with Hathazari Police Station in connection with the vandalism, said Kamrul.

Meanwhile, a faction led by Fazle Rabbi Sujan, general secretary of the suspended committee of CU BCL, submitted memorandums to the deputy inspector general of police and superintendent of police in Chittagong, demanding that the people who threatened a CU teacher with a firearm on November 5 be brought to book.

The group demanded identification of the culprits and finding out those who supplied them with the firearm.

It also sought arrest of the persons involved in the vandalism and assault on a journalist on Tuesday.
