Ctg Cocaine Haul Case

Court sends Nur to two-day remand

A Chittagong court yesterday granted a two-day remand for Khan Jahan Ali Ltd's chairman Nur Mohammad in the case filed over seizure of liquid cocaine from a container carrying sun-flower oil at Chittagong port.

Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Jhalak Roy passed the order in presence of Mohiuddin Faruquee of Rab-7, investigation officer and additional superintendent of police.

On January 25, the court had ordered the IO to present before it during remand hearing after the petition was moved seeking a three-day remand for Nur Mohamamd on January 23.

Nur Mohammad was placed on a three-day remand for interrogation after he was arrested on January 15.

On May 8 last year, the container with 107 barrels of sunflower oil arrived at Chittagong Port from Bolivia via Uruguay.

Customs officials sealed off the container on June 6 and it was opened on June 8, in presence of officials of different agencies. Samples from barrels were sent for tests in two laboratories in Dhaka, where liquid cocaine was found.

A case was filed on June 27.

Detective branch submitted the charge sheet accusing eight persons dropping Nur Mohammad's name on November 19.

Not accepting the charge sheet, a Chittagong court directed Rab-7 for further investigation.
