Court rejects charge sheet, orders CID to investigate

Rejecting the charge sheet pressed by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in connection with the murder of Indian Student Ateef Sheikh, a court in Chittagong yesterday ordered Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to further investigate into the murder case.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Salem Md Noman delivered the order after hearing on the charge sheet, in which the victim's compatriot and roommate Maisnam Winson Singh was implicated, said Assistant Commissioner (AC) (prosecution) Kazi Shahbuddin Ahmed of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).

Earlier, PBI pressed charges Winson on July 22, as his DNA matched with the DNA found on the knife's handle that was used to kill Ateef. However, PBI failed to find out reason behind the murder as Winson in remand pretended not to recall anything during the murder.

Ateef Sheikh, an Indian student of University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC), was found murdered at his apartment on July 15 in last year in Chittagong city's Akbar Shah area.
