Court accepts Rana Plaza murder case charge sheet

A Dhaka court today took cognisance of the charges against 41 people including Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana in connection with a murder case filed over the Rana Plaza collapse which killed at least 1,136 people.

Judge SM Kuddus Zaman of the District and Sessions Judge's Court passed the order against the accused and fixed May 15 for hearing on charge framing in the case.  

Another Dhaka court today fixed May 10 for hearing on charge framing against Rana and 17 others in the case filed over “violating building codes” in constructing the building.

On June 1 last year, Investigation Officer Bijoy Krishna Kar, CID assistant superintendent of police, submitted two charge sheets–one for murder and the other for building code violation.

The accused also include are Rana’s parents, owners of four factories, mayor of Savar Municipality and 11 government officials.

Among the accused, only Rana is in jail, 31 are on bail and nine are on the run.

The nine-storied Rana Plaza that housed a number of readymade garment factories collapsed on April 24, 2013.
