One 'militant' killed in Azimpur raid

A suspected militant was killed and eight others including five policemen were injured in a gunfight when police conducted a raid at a “militant den” in Azimpur area of Dhaka this evening.

Sanwar Hossain, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the incident to The Daily Star.

Acting on a tip-off, a group of plainclothes police carried out a raid at a house No. 209/5 near Azimpur graveyard around 7:00pm, said Masudur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Sensing the police presence, four suspected militants including three women, who were inside the house with sharp weapons, swooped on the law enforcers, triggering a “gunfight”, he said.

At one point, the militants also a blasted grenade at the law enforcers, leaving a “militant” dead on the spot and eight including five policemen injured, the police official said.
