Ctg city raids: Nothing suspicious found, cops say

Raids at two separate houses in Chittagong city were called off this evening after joint forces found nothing suspicious there.
In the afternoon, the law enforcers cordoned off two four-storey buildings in Akbar Shah and Kattoli areas of the port city based on information that the houses were used by militants, police said.
A large number of law enforcers including Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and local policemen took part in the raids.
In Akbar Shah
Acting on a tip-off, police cordoned off a house no. 40/41 in Akbar Shah area around 4:00pm, our staff correspondent reports quoting Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Akbar Shah Police Station.

A team of Rab and police led by Faizur Rahman, assistant commissioner of Double Mooring zone, conducted a raid at the four-storey building named MMH Nibas in the area.
The raid was conducted following confessional statements given by the suspected militants who were detained in an anti-militancy drive in Sitakunda earlier, the AC said.
We conducted the one and a half hour long search inside the building but did not find any substance of threat,” the AC said after the raid.
In Kattoli
Meanwhile, based on secret information, a team of Rab and police along with a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team conducted the raid at the four-storey building located in Nikunja residential area in Kattoli, police said.
Before conducting the search, law enforcers cordoned off the building, Nazmul Hassan, additional deputy commissioner (west) of Chittagong division, told The Daily Star.
However, the law enforcers left the place around 6:20pm without sharing any outcome of the raid with journalists.
Besides, Srisha Saha, owner of the house, told journalists that he was asked whether any woman with a child took rent in his house recently.
“It is an embarrassing situation for me. I know my tenants well. They all are members of different minority communities,” Saha, also a former general manager of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company, told journalists who were present on the spot.
