Continue engagement with Myanmar

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam advised UNHCR to continue its engagement with Myanmar towards creating an environment in Rakhine State to facilitate the safe and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingyas.

He said this during a meeting with Regional Representative of UNHCR James Lynch, at the Parliament yesterday, according to a foreign ministry press release.

The UNHCR representative briefed the state minister about the recently signed MoU between Myanmar, UNHCR and UNDP.

The MoU provides a framework for further cooperation between Myanmar and the UN for the safe repatriation, resettlement and reintegration of the displaced Rohingyas.

Bangladesh has already engaged UNHCR in the repatriation by signing two MoUs of cooperation.
