The sale of clay pots has increased in Sylhet city and its adjacent areas marking the upcoming Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community.

Pots of various shapes and designs are being sold at different shops and stalls especially in Hasan market, Laldghiripar and Kin Bridge area.

The colourful pots are available at different price ranging from Tk 20 to Tk 500, depending on their sizes and designs.

Locals use such clay pots for household chores but during this puja season the use of clay pots in houses as well as in temples increases as the pots are one of the essential elements of worships.

A shop owner Abdur Razzak said, "This year, the sale is going better than the previous ones.”

Mohon Das, resident of Pathantul, said, “I bought 20 pots for Durga  Puja. In this season, we get to see varieties of pots.”

Rickshaw-puller Kamrul Hasan said, “I have come to purchase three pots for my house as Kinbridge area is famous for such pots.”

Rajat Kanti Gupta, general secretary of Puja Udjyapan Parishad Sylhet metropolitan unit, said all the preparation has been completed.

This year, 2,500 mandaps (altars) have been planned to be set up to celebrate Durga Puja, starting tomorrow, said the organisers. Of them, at least 600 mandaps will be installed in Sylhet district while 45 of them in Sylhet metropolitan area.

This year, the puja will be celebrated in more places than previous years which is another reason for the soaring need of clay pots.
