Cell phone operators for consultation on call-drop

Cellular phone operators have urged the telecom regulators for consultation on and review of the directive of compensating subscribers for call-drop.

Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB), in a letter to the regulator on Thursday requested it to sit with the operators to consult about facts and figures regarding call-drop.

AMTOB initiated the move against the backdrop of a directive by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on January 19 that made compensation for call-drop mandatory.

"Criteria are needed to be defined for who would be entitled for compensation, as the operators have been maintaining ITU standard and BTRC guidelines," said Nurul Kabir, secretary general of AMTOB.

BTRC directives said in last few months, the users have been experiencing difficulties such as losing connection or mute call because of poor quality network. So, all the mobile-phone companies are ordered to take necessary steps to provide a call-minute back as compensation for call-drop.

The commission issued the directive following a decision from the posts and telecommunications division.
