The High Court will deliver an order today on a writ petition seeking directive on government to form a high-powered body to probe the authenticity of cases filed against activists of BNP and other political parties.

The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal yesterday fixed the date after concluding hearing on the petition.

Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain, Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury and Advocate Sanaullah Mia collectively submitted the petition saying 4,000 fictitious and malafide cases were filed across the country in September against leaders and activists of BNP and other political parties.

The cases were filed in order to create panic among the opposition political party men ahead of the next parliamentary elections, said in the petition.

During hearing yesterday, Dr Kamal Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain appeared for the writ petitioners, while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Ekramul Haque Tutul stood for the state.
