Car ploughs thru' Dhaka footpath, 2 killed

Two women were killed and one was injured as a private car ploughed through people sleeping on a footpath near the High Court in Dhaka early today.

Hasina, 35, and Shahara, 40, were pronounced dead after they were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) soon after the accident, DMCH police camp sources told The Daily Star this morning.  

Another woman, aged below 30, was also injured during the accident that took place around 1:15am, it said.

Details on the victims were not available when this report was filed at 10:39am.

Shahbagh police arrested a man in this connection and seized the vehicle, Abu Bakar Siddiqui, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, said.
