Barisal City Polls

Campaign materials not removed yet

Posters and billboards posted in Barisal city by hopeful candidates in the upcoming election of Barisal City Corporation (BCC) are yet to be removed, despite a directive issued last week by the Election Commission (EC) in this regard.

On June 13, the EC in a circular directed the Barisal district administration, Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) and returning officer of BCC to take necessary measures to remove campaign materials that prospective candidates had posted all over the city, before announcement of official electioneering date. Most areas of the city including Bibirpukur, Ashwini Kumar Hall, Launch Ghat and Nathullabad have been plastered with campaign materials, even before the election schedule was announced.

BCC returning officer Mujibur Rahman Khan said, “We've asked the candidates to remove their billboards by June 20.”

BMP Commissioner Mahfuzur Rahman said, “We are in the process of requesting the hopeful candidates to remove their billboards.”
