Twenty-two years have gone by into the abduction of Kalpana Chakma and still the culprits evade justice, speakers at a programme said today.

In a programme arranged marking the anniversary at Bangladesh National Museum in Dhaka, Hill Women’s Federation and Bangladesh Adivasi Nari Network demanded that the abductors of Kalpana Chakma be brought to book as soon as possible.

“Culture of impunity is the reason behind Kalpana Chakma’s abduction. She is the symbol of protest,” said human rights activist Sultana Kamal, who was also present in the programme.

“The rule of law must be established by bringing to book the abductors of Kalpana Chakma,” she added.

The two organisations also demanded quick implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord and security of the indigenous women.
