Rajshahi Govt City College

Boy slaps girl in classroom

A student assaulted and hurled abuse to a female classmate inside the classroom at Rajshahi Government City College yesterday after she accused the boy of causing disruptions in class.

Protesting the assault, teachers and students stopped attending classes, and the teachers demanded expulsion of the student in their council meeting.

Muhammad Ezaz, a class XI student, fled the campus soon after the assault.

“Ezaz started annoying the classmates as he usually does since the start of our economics class at 9:00am... and the teacher asked him to sit on a back bench,” said a witness.

The teacher also took away his phone as he started talking over it sitting on the back bench, she said.

When the teacher took his phone, the female student complained that Ezaz often annoyed classmates, and it was becoming difficult to stay in class because of him, the witness said.

After the teacher left, Ezaz went to the female classmate and slapped her. “We were surprised," the witness said.

Before fleeing, Ezaz hurled abuse at the victim.

Bayezid Bostami, the economics teacher, said he saw the girl was crying as he returned to the classroom hearing about the incident.

"He was creating problems from the beginning of the class today,” he said.

Nilufar Parvin, the vice principal, said the college authorities informed police, but they did not file any complaint; they would take action after the principal returned from Dhaka.
