Boy dies eight days after surgery

Rangpur clinic had secretly transferred him to another hospital following operation

Babu, a four-year-old boy whom the Jonoseba Clinic authorities in Rangpur city secretly shifted to another private hospital after hernia surgery, died on Monday evening after an eight-day battle.

The boy had been on life support at Prime Medical College Hospital since the night of April 16, said Rangpur Sadar police. Police yesterday handed over the body to his parents after autopsy at Rangpur Medical College.

Babu was admitted to Jonoseba Clinic in Rangpur city on April 16 where a team of doctors, led by Dr Mosaddeque Hossain, conducted hernia surgery on him. As his condition deteriorated, the clinic authorities shifted him to Prime Medical College Hospital without informing his parents and kept it secret until his father Abdul Baten gathered there with some journalists.

Baten alleged that the clinic staff did not let him see his son as they provided wrong treatment to him. No case has been filed yet.
