Book on 1947 migration launched in Agartala

A discussion on a book on violation of human rights in the then East Pakistan and how that prompted the Hindus to migrate to India after the partition in 1947 was held Wednesday in Agartala, the capital of Tripura state.

"I have written this book…because no writer has so far properly depicted what prompted the Hindus to migrate to India after the partition in 1947," said Tathagata Roy, governor of northeastern Indian state of Tripura, at the launching ceremony of his book titled “Ja Chhilo Amar Desh” (What my country used to be).

"All of them wrote about how they (migrants) struggled to settle down after migration, but not about violation of human rights in the then East Pakistan," he said.

He also mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government has ensured the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh but a sense of security is yet to prevail among the minority community.
