Family looking for ‘lost daughter’ in dead Sylhet militant

A family from Bandarban is en route to Sylhet to trace whether their “missing daughter” is the dead female militant who was killed in “Operation Twilight” at Atia Mahal.

They started for Sylhet at 2:00pm from Bandarban, our local correspondent reports quoting Sub-Inspector Monirul Islam of Naikkhangchari Police Station.

The family said, their daughter – Manjiara Begum – disappeared four months ago along with her brother Zahirul Hoque and sister in-law Rajia Sultana, both of whom are now under arrest.

Another sister of Manjiara, Jubaira Begum died in the Sitakunda raid “Assault 16”. Her brother Zahirul was arrested along with his wife Rajia from Chayaneer during the raid.

Ziabul Haque, Manjira’s older brother, told The Daily Star that police were taking them to Sylhet to identify whether his “lost sister” is the dead female Sylhet militant of Atia Mahal.

Autopsy of dead militants

Bodies of two militants were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College morgue for autopsy.

The unidentified bodies -- one of a woman and another of a man -- were taken inside the morgue around noon, Sohel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station, told The Daily Star.

A medical board led by Dr Shamsul Alam was conducting postmortems on the bodies of the militants, aged between 25 and 33.

During the autopsies, DNA samples will be collected for different chemical tests, OC Sohel said adding that the bodies will be kept at the hospital morgue until those are identified.
