Avijit murder: Court extends probe deadline again

Probe report on the case filed over murder of writer and blogger Avijit Roy back in February 2015 has been deferred yet once again.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sarafuzzaman Ansary allowed Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit until March 25 to file the report.

Up until the latest development today, the court had earlier fixed 41 dates for submission of the report, but the investigating officer failed to comply.

Avijit, a Bangladesh-born US citizen, was hacked to death on Dhaka University campus when he along with his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya was returning from the book fair on February 26 of 2015. Bonya was critically injured in the attack.

Avijit’s father Ajay Roy filed the murder case against unidentified assailants with Shahbagh Police Station.

Police have so far arrested ten suspects for their alleged involvement in the crime.

They are -- Arafat Rahman alias Siam alias Sazzad, Abu Siddique Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid, Mojammel Hossain alias Saimun, Shafiur Rahman Farabi, Sadekur Rahman Mithu, Alimul Mallik, Towhidur Rahman, Julhaj Biswas, Sabez Ali and Jafran Hossain.

Of them, only Julhaj Biswas is out on bail while the others are now in jail.
