Blast in Ctg flat: 2 burnt victims die
An elderly woman and her granddaughter, who along with two others were burnt in an explosion in Chittagong city yesterday, succumbed to their injuries early today.
Deceased Samuda Khatun, 70, and Tanima Afrin Chowdhury Ifti, 17, an SSC examinee, suffered 100 percent burn injuries, Sub-inspector Zahirul Islam of Chittagong Medical College police outpost told The Daily Star.
Around 5:15am yesterday, four people including three of a family sustained burn injuries after a explosion ripped through a six-storey building in Nirapod Housing Society of the port city.
A portion of a wall on the floor and most of the doors and windows of the building, where 36 families reside, were damaged.
Residents in the area said it could not be a mere gas explosion because of large-scale damage and noise created by the explosion. Police said explosive experts were working to find out the reason.
