Bereaved wife commits suicide after husband’s death

A bereaved woman reportedly committed suicide today in the grief of her husband’s death in Dhaka.

The deceased, Monju Rani Das, 55, a housewife, lived in Eskaton area of the capital. Her husband Badhan Chandra Das, a fruits trader in Badamtali area, committed suicide being under pressure of debt one and a half month ago, Badhan’s brother Sudarshan Das, told The Daily Star.

Since then, Monju Rani couldn’t make peace with her husband’s death, he said.

She used to sit in the drawing room all day and kept staring at her husband’s photo, he added.

After passing one and a half months in such extreme grief, she could not tolerate it anymore and committed suicide taking poison, according to family sources and police.

A bottle of poison along with a suicide note was recovered beside her body, Sub Inspector Mosharraf Hossen of Ramna Police Station, told The Daily Star. 

In the suicide note, she asserted that nobody was responsible for her death. She committed suicide for not being able to make peace with her husband’s death, the officer said.
