Be very careful in auto-rickshaws

It is unbelievable how fast they snatch away your valuables. One second you are talking to somebody on your phone and the next, poof-- it's gone.

I have always wondered how the culprits find out what kind of phone you are using -- an expensive smartphone or a simple phone with basic functions.

On that night, I was going home in a CNG-run three-wheeler after work ended around 11:30pm. The street was busy with traffic as usual and shops nearby were open for Eid shoppers.

There was a human-hauler coming from the opposite direction, driving on the wrong side of the road.

The three-wheeler I was in was passing by the intersection near Sezan Point Shopping Complex. Traffic movement was slow, considering the turn up ahead at the Farmgate Intersection.

Meanwhile, I was absent-mindedly talking to my friend over phone. Suddenly, my phone was snatched out of my hand. Looking up, I see a hole in the roof of the three-wheeler.

Stopping the vehicle, I and my colleague dash out on the street, but to no avail. The street was full of people, but we could not see anybody running away.

I wish I could rewind time and avoid the horrible incident that made me lose five months' worth of memories. I believe the theft was not carried out by one person but rather a gang.

So, with a heavy heart I advice everyone to be careful with their belongings especially with Eid-ul Azha right around the corner.
