Bangladeshi's ear bitten off by robber in Italy

A robber bit off an ear of a Bangladeshi expatriate in Italy's Milan. However, the victim and his coworker managed to hold on to the robber until the police arrived.

Travel agent Jamal Ahmed, aged around 60, was working at his office, New Asia Services, on Saturday night when a Moroccan man arrived, family sources said.

The man first made a demand of 100 euros from Jamal. As he refused, the robber made an attempt to snatch Jamal's cellphone. A tussle ensued between the two when Jamal's coworker rushed in and held the attacker. In his attempt to get away, the robber at one stage bit off Jamal's left ear.

Jamal was taken to San Gerardo hospital, some 25 miles away from Milan, after the police arrived and arrested the attacker. The chance of reattaching the severed ear is only 10 percent, said a surgeon at the hospital before conducting a surgery on Jamal.

His wife, Meriz Sultana Mita from Mohammadpur in Dhaka, said, “We are really worried as he has no relative in Milan.”

Tasnuva Ahmed, one of his three children, said, “We are trying to get Italian visa... We request the Bangladesh consulate general in Milan to look into the matter and assist.”
