Bangladeshi winners accorded reception

Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee (BdMOC) yesterday accorded a grand reception to the Bangladesh team of International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)-2016 for achieving silver and bronze medals at the 57th IMO held in Hong Kong this month.

The programme was held in the TCB auditorium at Kawran Bazar of the capital.

The Bangladesh team bagged one silver and three bronze medals, and received two honourable mentions, but narrowly missed the gold medal.

Asif E Elahi of Sylhet MC College was awarded the silver medal, while Ahmed Zawad Chowdhury of Chittagong Cantonment English School and College, Md Sabbir Rahman of Notre Dame College in the capital and Sazid Akhter Turzo of Sirajganj Government College were awarded the bronze ones.

SM Nayeemul Islam of Barisal Zilla School and Md Sanzeed Anwar of Mymensing Anondamohon College received honourable mentions.

BdMOC Chairman Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Deputy Managing Director of Dutch Bangla Bank Ltd Saidul Hasan and others congratulated the award winners and their team leaders Mahbubul Alam Majumder and AA Munir Hasan.

BdMOC formed the team after selecting participants from national and divisional-level Olympiads sponsored by Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd and the Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Bangladeshi students have been taking part in IMO since 2005 and so far got four silver and 17 bronze medals and 23 honourable mentions.
