Bangladeshi citizens working abroad will receive their Machine Readable Passports within maximum seven days, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said today.

The migrants, who have been receiving their MRPs in three or four months, will get their passports in three to seven days from today after submission of their applications, the minister said while addressing Passport Week at the Immigration and Passport Office in Dhaka.

“The government inked a deal today with the Federal Express today, which is able to supply the passports to the Bangladeshis living abroad,” he said.

Apart from this, Bangladesh has taken steps to launch e-passport service to curb corruption in making passports, he said.

There are 118 countries in the world that are running the e-passport service.

While replying to a query of reporters about militants acquiring passports, “The immigration department is alert so that the militants cannot manage any passport to enter the country”.
