Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today paid a visit to Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, who is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) following a knife attack last Saturday.

The premier met Prof Iqbal around 12:45pm at the hospital and stayed there for 15 to 20 minutes, Maj Gen Munshi Md Mojibur Rahman, chief cardiac surgeon and consultant surgeon general of Bangladesh Armed Forces, told The Daily Star.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina talked to Prof Iqbal and also inquired about his health condition,” he said.

“His (Prof Iqbal) condition is improving and he is doing well. He is getting proper sleep and is eating well,” he added.

Eminent educationist Prof Zafar Iqbal was attacked on stage under broad daylight at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust).

Foyzur Rahman, a madrasa student, who stabbed the professor was caught red handed. Some more people, including the assailant’s father, were later detained in this regard and a lawsuit was filed.
